2024 Geography bowl
Open to all 3rd-5th graders - not a mandatory event, but it’s a great way to learn about the world!
It’s time for the Geography Bowl!
Is your student ready to learn more about the world around us and join a fun competition? The Farmland PTA-sponsored Geography Bowl is open to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. The 3rd grade packet is focused on the USA; 4th grade expands to include the Americas, Antarctica, Australia and Oceania; and 5th grade focuses on Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Study Packets:
Below are the links to study packets (by grade). If your student would like to participate, please print a copy so they can color the maps and answer the questions. We also have some hard copies available in the office upon request.
Encourage your students to start working on the study packet now! Everything they need to be successful is in the packets. Later this month, we will share the answer keys so they can self-correct their work and prepare for the qualifying quiz for their grade.
Optional Zoom Scavenger Hunts
In order to help students prepare for the quizzes, we are offering PTA-led optional study sessions on Zoom with a study packet scavenger hunt game. Dates/times are below and Zoom login info is in Mrs. Longest's weekly emails.
3rd grade: Monday, October 28, 6-6:45pm
4th grade: Tuesday, October 29, 6-6:45
5th grade: Tuesday, October 29, 7-7:45
Qualifying quizzes will be on Thursday, October 31 (3rd grade) and Friday, November 1 (4th and 5th grade) during lunch/recess. Once the quizzes are scored, the top-scoring students will be placed in teams of 3 students each to compete in the Geo Bowl for their grade.
Geo Bowls Dates/Times
We will hold the Geo Bowls in the Media Center (with a Zoom link so parents/family of bowl participants may join virtually):
3rd grade: Thursday, November 14, 2:30-3:30pm
4th grade: Friday, November 15, 2:30-3:30pm
5th grade: Friday, November 15, 9:30-10:30am
Travel Photo Slideshow
But wait, there's more! Do you have any travel pictures from a recent trip? ALL Farmland students (in all grades) and staff are encouraged to submit a photo of your family's travel (near or far) for the Geography Bowl slideshow! Just send a travel photo of your student(s) to farmlandgeobowl@gmail.com. Include the student's first and last name, teacher's name, and geographical location of the picture in the email. The deadline for inclusion in the slideshow is Monday, Nov. 11.
